Trade Rumor: Tyrus Thomas For Al Harrington

Good thing for Gordon that I scrubbed the old bean bag extra good this morning.

Good thing for Gordon that I baby powdered the old bean bag this morning.

Reports are surfacing that the Bulls and Knicks have been getting together and talking trade.  Specifically the rumor is Al Harrington in exchange for Tyrus Thomas and Jerome James.

This is one of those trade rumors that just makes so much sense that it’ll never get done.

The Bulls have zero offense especially from their big men.  Al Harrington is a big man who can blow up for more scoring than anybody currently on the Bulls.

The Knicks have a ton of chuckers at forward that don’t play defense and a coach that can mold raw talent.  Defense is the best thing about Tyrus Thomas and he has tons of raw talent to spare.

The trade will also work out to help both teams field monster offers to free agents after the season because it will clear out the Thomas cap hold for Chicago and lower the qualifying offer for the Knicks if they choose to extend Thomas in New York.  Win-win.

Sure it sucks to finally admit that trading LaMarcus Aldridge to get Tyrus Thomas on draft night was a huge mistake.  But when offered an out like this, I think it’s something you have to look at taking.  Tyrus is not in the Bulls’ long term plans, as seen by the front office not extending a single contract extension offer to him yet.  Cut ties.  Rip off the band aid.  I’m sure nobody will remember this debacle next summer when you are making a legit run at LeBron.

From a fantasy perspective this should also be good for both of the major players.  Harrington has been putting up numbers, but they have been sporadic because of his inconsistent minutes coming off the bench.  As a number one scoring option in Chicago he should get a lot more playing time to chuck the ball and get some boards.  Tyrus should fit in New York as one of the best defensive options which will get him minutes and under D’Antoni his offense has to improve.
